Working at a summer camp is one of the sweetest teen jobs around and one of the most desirable summer camp positions is a camp counselor. There are a ton of factors that make camp counselors one of the most sought after summer jobs.

One of the perks is that you get to work outside in a fun environment and interact with other teens and college students. The social scene is great. Interacting and playing with kids is pretty cool too. It sure beats working in a stuffy office (IMHO.) You will get to do things that you would normally never have the chance to do in your everyday life, like canoeing, camp fires, sing silly songs, arts and crafts. The friendships and relationships you make with your coworkers will be lifelong in many instances.
There are many different types of camps so you will be able to get involved with something you are passionate about. For example, if you are on the soccer team, you may want to explore opportunities at soccer camps. The types of camps available today seem limitless, from sports camps, academic camps, weight loss camps, space camp (my personal favorite) nature camps, acting camps and on and on..
The demand for good camp counselors is high, as there are over 2,000 camps across the country and almost 3,000,000 campers. If you figure a 10 to 1 camper to counselor ratio, that is 300,000 summer jobs. In order to get a job as a camp counselor you will need to be over 16 years old, many camps prefer to hire college students, have a clean record and be energetic and fun.

Remember how much fun you had going to camp as a child, well just imagine going to camp where you are in charge and getting payed for it. Sign me up!
